World Cup 2010 South Africa - South America Qualifying

It was confirmed on February 14th 2007 that, as in previous South American World Cup qualifying competitions, all ten nations from the South American Football Confederation will play each other home and away in one group of ten teams. The top 4 qualify automatically with the 5th place finisher playing a 2 leg play-off against the 4th placed finisher from CONCACAF. South American World Cup qualifying starts in October 2007 with the first round of games scheduled for the 13th October.

Uruguay will now play Costa Rica in a play-off with the winner qualifying for the World Cup.
